With decreasing costs for solar systems and increasing cost of electricity solar energy has become a very solid investment. PG&E has requested additional increases for 2014 and 2015 that would translate to 30% higher rates. These increases are driving the demand for solar systems. In Napa and Sonoma alone hundreds of solar systems coming online every month. If you pay $100 or more in electricity, you should take a serious look at how much a solar system can save you.
The business case for commercial systems has reached a point where systems cannot only be used to offset the increasing electricity cost of a business but could also be used to generate a predictable revenue stream.
Marin Clean Energy has led the way by providing for-profit solar facility operators a 20-year energy-purchasing contract. With that contract in hand financing a for-profit solar facility has become possible for anybody with a suitable piece of property or large roof space. Sonoma is following that example and 2014 may see the birth of Sonoma Clean Energy.
